Description: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a U.S. immigration policy established in 2012 that provides temporary protection from deportation and work authorization to certain undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children. Known as "Dreamers," eligible individuals must have entered the U.S. before their 16th birthday, lived continuously since June 15, 2007, and been under age 31 as of June 15, 2012. They must also be in school, have graduated, obtained a GED, or served honorably in the military, and have no serious criminal record. DACA does not grant legal status or a path to citizenship, but allows recipients to obtain a work permit, a Social Security number, and access to education and economic opportunities. Applications and renewals require forms, documentation, and fees, and must be renewed every two years.
